In August 2010, the Department for Communities and Local Government (DCLG) announced plans to put in place new arrangements for auditing England's local public bodies.
In March 2011, DCLG issued a consultation document (external link) and the Audit Commission welcomed this while highlighting important issues that need further debate.

DCLG will publish a draft Bill for further scrutiny and comment later in the year.
