Learning from CPA

The Audit Commission is committed to sharing the learning from CPA through a series of reports, bulletins and briefings. Our work is based on:

The two methodologies are different and therefore the findings are not directly comparable.

Reports on the annual CPA scores and analysis are available from CPA scores.

Learning from the Commission’s work

In 2008, the Commission will publish a series of reports that take a thematic view of findings from CPA, inspections, performance information and national surveys of local services. The reports will be based on information published up to September 2007.

Focusing on citizens, users and diverse communities
This report provides a summary on what the Commission has learnt about how well councils understand, engage with and focus on their communities and identifies what progress councils are making to address issues of equality and diversity. However, it recognises that variations in the level and extent of improvement exist and that a more consistent and systematic approach across all councils is required.

Learning from CPA in 2005/06

The report Learning from CPA in 2005/06 examines the findings of 17 single tier and county council corporate assessments and 388 use of resources assessments. It considers each of the shared priority themes together with progress councils are making to lead and engage with their communities and partners and secure value for money.

Alongside the learning from CPA report, an interactive web tool has been developed to share the experiences and learning from councils. It will be regularly updated as more corporate assessments are published and additional examples of notable practice are identified and developed. The information included within the tool is not offered as 'best practice', or, necessarily, associated with top performance – but as a potential source of learning for councils.
