Providing aids and adaptations for disabled tenants - Knightstone Housing Association

Released  15 December 2009

Knightstone Housing Association - Short notice inspection

New policies, procedures and service standards were approved by the Knightstone Housing Association (KHA) Board in March 2009 for the aids and adaptations service. The new policy led to significantly improved outcomes for disabled tenants. These include:

  • a quicker response to requests for adaptations;
  • no waiting lists;
  • effective integration of adaptations as part of the planned works programme; and
  • a commitment to promote and publicise the service.

As a result, the Association has (in the current year) received double the total number of enquiries received in the last two years. An increased budget means that more tenants are being helped directly by the Association. The setting up of the Disability Equality Scrutiny Group provided the Association with a well-informed forum to help it develop its policies. The Group is influencing policy and has been tasked with monitoring the implementation of the new policy for a trial period of 12 months.
