Safer Sutton Partnership - London Borough of Sutton

Released  26 October 2006

London Borough of Sutton Supporting People Inspection

Rating: Good service | Promising prospects for improvement

The Safer Sutton Partnership (SSP) provides a clear strategic lead on many of the issues covered by Supporting People. It is the first service of its kind nationally that co-locates a Police and Community Partnership Unit, a local authority community safety team and a drug and alcohol action co-ordinating team. Its work covers a variety of areas including:

  • drugs/alcohol treatment and provision;
  • Multi Agency Public Protection Arrangements (MAPPA);
  • residential rehabilitation placements;
  • prolific and priority offenders;
  • domestic violence;
  • young people;
  • race and hate crime; and
  • community safety in general.

It delivers the local crime and disorder strategy, and implements the national drug and alcohol strategy locally and there are clear links into a number of different strategic areas. It contributed to the Supporting People five-year strategy, and also provides input to the housing and local homelessness strategies. It has good links with Supporting People and has had a direct influence on the Supporting People programme. An example is the establishment of the floating Support Worker for substance misuse and involvement in the reconfiguring of Supporting People funded serves.
