Supporting People funds £1.6 billion of housing related support nationally to a wide range of vulnerable people to help them find and keep a home where they can live as independently as possible.
Since 2003, the Audit Commission has carried out a programme of scheduled full inspections of all 150 Administering Local Authorities (ALA) which were responsible for the Supporting People grant and associated programme at that time.
The Commission agreed to prepare a report for Communities and Local Government (CLG) to cover:
- the impact of the Supporting People programme
- a review of the government’s response to the Commission's 2005 report
- an assessment of any ongoing or new challenges and the identification of barriers to improvement at a local and/or national level, and associated risks for the future
- options for overcoming these barriers together with the development of opportunities for the future
Available in this section are the good practice case studies for the Supporting People review 2009.
