North Tyneside Council - Strategic housing services

Released  02 September 2010
Rating: Fair service | Promising prospects for improvement

Summary [Download full report below this summary]

North Tyneside Council’s strategic housing service is fair with promising prospects for improvement. The Council has a clear vision for housing. Its strategic approach is closely linked to wider social, environmental and economic issues. Joint working with house builders has increased the number of homes available to buy and rent. The Council is working well to prevent homelessness and vulnerable people are being helped to live independently in their homes.  More work is needed to tackle poor housing conditions in privately rented homes and to link housing and health issues so that opportunities for joint planning and funding can be explored. Better understanding of the housing needs of all local people is needed and opportunities need to be developed for local communities to get involved.
