The Borough of Broxbourne's benefits service, which pays out almost £36 million a year in housing and council tax benefits, has been awarded a 'fair' one-star rating with 'promising' prospects for improvement.
The report shows that customers experienced delays in having benefit claims dealt with because of a slow response to rising numbers of people claiming benefits. But benefits are now being paid quickly. The Council is having some success with the take-up of benefits but more needs to be done to make sure that people get the help and benefits they need.
