The Benefits Service at Ashfield District Council is poor, with uncertain prospects for improvement. Benefits are not paid promptly when a customer submits a new claim or has a change in circumstances. The service is not doing enough to make sure that the payments its customers receive are correct. However, there is some success in increasing the number of people claiming the benefits to which they are entitled through targeted campaigns and the service is accessible via district offices and through the internet.
