Residents get 'fair' access to services from Calderdale Metropolitan Borough Council, with 'promising' prospects for improvement, according to an independent report by the Audit Commission.
On a scale from zero to three stars the Audit Commission inspection team gave the Council a 'fair' one-star rating. Inspectors found that the Council is putting a new emphasis on customer service. It is learning more about residents and offering them better information and access, including involving them in designing some services.
However, its plans have only just started to make an impact. The Council's website compares well with others across the country, but there is only one one-stop shop, in Todmorden. The Council's A-Z directory of services contains more than 100 different telephone numbers, making it complicated for residents to find the number they need
