On a scale from zero to three stars, the Audit Commission inspection team gave the services, which focus on supporting local businesses and delivering regeneration projects, a 'fair' one-star rating. In a two-stage inspection during 2008 the inspectors also found that the services had 'promising' prospects for improvement.
The report shows that the Council has a good understanding of the difficult economic issues in the borough and is working with partners to address them. It is improving the tourism infrastructure and the attractiveness of the town as a place to live, visit and set up business.
However, it is having difficulty in reducing the longstanding inequality in employment and wages between Great Yarmouth and the rest of the country.
