Slough Borough Council - community safety inspection

Released  19 February 2009
Rating: Fair service | Promising prospects for improvement

Summary [Download full report below this summary]

On a scale from zero to three stars the Audit Commission inspection team gave the service a 'fair', one-star rating.

This is because a wide range of council services are making important contributions to community safety but evaluation of their effectiveness is weak and crime reduction is below average. Public satisfaction with community safety is poor.

Community safety in Slough is a challenging issue for the Council. There are clear examples where its services are making a difference but these are not yet making sufficient impact on crime figures and public perception. Better evaluation and analysis would help to address these areas and demonstrate value for money.

The Council is strongly committed to improving community safety and is planning to increase its capacity in the right areas, which should give residents confidence about the future.
