Avon and Somerset Police Authority is performing adequately. The Authority has established an effective relationship with the Chief Constable and the Constabulary. This is underpinned by visible leadership from the Authority's experienced and influential Chair. The Authority ensures that the Constabulary is well led and makes good quality senior appointments. It demonstrates its influence in the development of high-profile projects but is less effective in its scrutiny of core police business.
