An underpinning principle of CAA is that the joint inspectorates will assess how well local public services, working in partnership, are addressing the needs of their diverse communities. To ensure that we are addressing this effectively we are carrying out an Equalities Impact Assessment (EIA) of CAA as required by our equalities legal duties.
The EIA process for CAA is an ongoing one, which tests out at each stage of the development of CAA how well we have assessed and reported equalities issues. We report on this at key stages in developing and implementing CAA.
A strong focus on equality and diversity encourages the continual improvement in public services and ensures that they meet the changing needs of diverse communities and provide fair access for all.
For public services to improve they need good quality and timely information about their performance. This is fundamental to their ability to understand and remove inequality. Stimulating significant improvement in the quality of data and the use of information by decision makers is highly significant to improving performance on equality and diversity.
