The school survey can be used to identify good practice in the services councils provide to their schools. To this end, the Commission has produced a 'top 25%' guide to councils achieving the highest mean rating on each of the questions in the survey.

The Commission also attempts to identify good practice in the ways councils have used the survey as a driver for improvement in the services and support that they provide to schools. The Commission has produced a good practice guide to using the survey which includes tips on how to achieve a high response rate. It also gives examples of how councils have been making use of the data from the survey locally - both internally and with their schools.
