Kirklees council has made an analysis of all the associated costs of collection by different payment type. It has included an estimate of all the associated costs - such as cashier recharges and bank charges for each different type of payment. This work again concluded that Direct Debit was by far the cheapest collection cost. The council has increased the number of people on Direct Debit by over 7,000 in the last year and now has a Direct Debit rate of over 52 per cent.
Kirklees updated worksheet outlining the cost per transaction (Excel, 564KB) (new window) is available to download.
