Knowing your communities

The Knowing Your Communities Toolkit helps organisations assess their current performance and understand what they need to do to improve.

Covering nine themes including race, religion and engagement, they provide clear examples of improved outcomes. Supported by case studies of notable practice and links to other web-based resources, the tools give a high level overview of current progress and potential next steps.

We first launched the toolkit in 2006 and have recently updated it to take account of new legislation, changes in practice and current thinking.

We have updated the case studies and links to other resources and in response to feedback and evaluation, we have also revised the format of the tools. We have also made them relevant to all sectors, not just local government, so they may be a helpful resource for local strategic partnerships.

The tools are available on our website for organisations to download, but the online benchmarking facility is no longer available. Instead, we are collecting more case studies to update the toolkit.

If you have a case study related to one of the themes from the Knowing Your Communities toolkit which shows clear outcomes and will be interesting to others, please email userfocus@audit-commission.gov.uk.
