Foundation Trusts
NFI has delivered data matching to the NHS since 2002. Foundation Trusts can continue to benefit from NFI through payroll screening and creditors screening.
Payroll screening
Under the Immigration, Asylum and Nationality Act, 2006 you could be liable for a fine of up to £10,000 for employing an illegal worker. Taking part in NFI can highlight your employees that have no right to work in the UK thereby reducing your risk and assisting the UKBA in removing illegal immigrants from the UK.

Case Study
Yorkshire Ambulance Service NHS Trust investigated an NFI match between payroll and UK visa data and found that an employee had worked for the Trust for several years and been paid over £190,000, despite having no right to work in the UK. Investigations by the Trust’s Local Counter Fraud Specialists and the Northern & Yorkshire regional team of the NHS Counter Fraud Service showed that his visa and passport were forgeries.
It was also found that the individual was claiming asylum support stating that he was not working and did not have any income. Following arrest and interview, he absconded from the country before attending court. The employee’s wife was also discovered to have no right to reside or work in the UK, but was working for a local employer having deceived that employer who believed she had entitlement to work in the UK. The Trust is seeking to recover the tax, national insurance and pension contributions wrongly paid.
