Literature and policy reviews
The policy context and literature review gives an overview of the research evidence about using activities to prevent anti-social behaviour by young people, and the policy context. 'Young people's views from the selected research studies' summarises the results of previous research with young people about their issues and concerns about the availability of things to do in their area, along with what they would like to see in place.
Consulting young people
'Consulting young people on new provision' is aimed at staff who want to carry out a consultation exercise with young people about the type of activities they would like in their area. It covers the type of issues you need to consider before undertaking a consultation exercise, and gives ideas for both accessing young people at risk of anti-social behaviour and encouraging them to take part. Copies of the topic guides used in the focus groups held for 'Tired of Hanging Around' are also available.
Evaluation guidance
'Evaluating guidance with young people' sets out some basic principles of project evaluation, and the accompanying appendix outlines the terms used in evaluation and gives examples of the type of outcomes that are relevant to projects for young people along with suggestions for how to go about measuring them.
A guide for councils' overview and scrutiny functions
A framework for overview and scrutiny on the availability of sport and leisure activities to prevent anti-social behaviour by young people is provided. The framework outlines what scrutiny can achieve on this topic, and gives suggestions for questions to include and who to call to give evidence.
