Dr Foster Population Care Manager

Dr Foster designed Population Care Manager (external link) to help local councils use data about its local area to benchmark performance and identify local needs and inequalities.

It brings together a wide range of data about the health and well-being of a local community and organises it into usable information. This allows a council and its partners to make informed decisions about how it earmarks its resources.

Dr Foster Population Care Manager can link with Dr Foster Population Health Manager (a tool designed for use by PCTs) to provide information across health and social care

The costs for using Dr Foster Population Care Manager depend on the size of the authority and the analysis and support that Dr Foster supply

Using the tool

Dr Foster Population Care Manager is a web based tool, pre-populated with information covering a wide range of issues. It provides information including:

  • analysis of statistics about the area
  • maps
  • charts
  • graphs

These will feed directly into local Joint Strategic Needs Assessments, enabling local councils and their strategic partners to assess the composition and needs of their local population. This can go down to ward or postcode level if the council has the relevant data.

Dr Foster will populate Population Care Manager with nationally available data. Local data must be supplied to Dr Foster so it can provide information at a neighbourhood level. Councils will therefore need to commit resources to the programme to ensure local data is accurate.
