Projecting Older People Population Information (POPPI) and Projecting Adult Needs & Information (PANSI)

Projecting Older People Population Information (POPPI) (external link) gives councils easy access to forecasts of the numbers and characteristics of people aged 65 and over in their local area. Projecting Adult Needs and Service Information (PANSI) (external link) covers the 18-64 age group. These free web-based tools provide data that councils can use to plan for future demand.

Originally developed for the Department of Health, Care Services Efficiency Delivery programme the systems are now maintained by the Institute of Public Care, Oxford Brookes University.

Using POPPI and PANSI

POPPI and PANSI display population projections for the next 5 years and in five-year blocks to 2030, for England in addition to all regions, local authorities and county districts. They link to a wide range of information for service planning, such as data on health conditions, learning disability, support arrangements, and performance information.

Data tables can be downloaded to Excel for comparison, analysis and charting.

The Institute of Public Care provide a help desk and enquiry service to support the POPPI and PANSI websites.
