VFM conclusion guidance for auditors 2012/13 v3 issued 13 May 2013
Chapter 4 of the Code requires auditors to report the results of their work in a range of outputs. The outputs relevant to reporting auditors’ work relating to economy, efficiency and effectiveness are:
audit planning documents;
the report to those charged with governance;
the audit report including the conclusion on whether the audited body has put in place proper arrangements for securing economy, efficiency and effectiveness in its use of resources (the VFM conclusion); and
the annual audit letter.
The Code also refers to auditors reporting on the results of, or matters arising from, specific aspects of their work using oral or written reports or memoranda addressed to officers or directors. Where there is a need to provide timely feedback on aspects of auditors’ local VFM work, auditors should use an appropriate and proportionate approach, such as a PowerPoint presentation. There will normally be no need to issue a separate report in support of a presentation in such cases.
This section sets out guidance for auditors on reporting the results of their local VFM work.
